Boston Dynamics shows a product Atlas and describes fenceless guarding

Hyundai says the product version of Atlas was unveiled at CES 2026 and is slated to begin parts sequencing at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Savannah in 2028. Boston Dynamics says person and vehicle detection allows fenceless guarding, with the robot pausing inside a set radius.

Boston Dynamics retired its hydraulic Atlas and showed an electric version it said was aimed at real work, with Hyundai as the first test partner. The 2024 posts do not describe the fenceless-guarding behavior the company published later for the product robot.

Apptronik unveiled Apollo, a humanoid about 5 ft 8 in and 160 lb with a stated 55 lb lift, for buildings designed around people. The company says its force control is meant to keep operation around people closer to a cobot than to a caged industrial arm.
